Process Intensification Strategies for Power-to-X Technologies

Sector coupling remains a crucial measure to achieve climate change mitigation targets. Hydrogen and Power-to-X (PtX) products are recognized as major levers allow the boosting of renewable energy capacities consequent use green electrons in different sectors. In this work, challenges presented by PtX processes addressed process intensification (PI) strategies their potential overcome these reviewed for ammonia (NH3), dimethyl ether (DME) oxymethylene ethers (OME) three exemplary, products. PI approaches context offer on one hand maximum utilization valuable feedstock other simpler production processes. For discussed compelling strategy efficient ultimately maintenance-free chemical synthesis is integrating unit operations thermodynamic limitations, best cases eliminate recycle loops. The proposed significant reduction consumption provide an interesting perspective future development technologies.
